Side is the most important port city of Pamphylia region in antiquity. The ancient city of Side was founded on a peninsula in the coastal part of Manavgat district. It has a history dating back to the 8th century BC. “Side”, meaning pomegranate, was named after Luvice. In the 7th century BC, it came
under the rule of the Lydian Kingdom along with the entire Pamphylian region. This was followed by the kingdoms of Persia and Alexander the Great. In 78 BC, after the Roman consul Publius Servilius cleared the region of Pirates, Side was connected to the Roman Empire, as were other cities of Pamphylia.

You can see the remains extant in the ancient city of Side, city walls, City Gate, Nymphaeum, water, colonnaded streets, houses, commercial Agora, the ancient theatre, the Agora Baths (Side museum), the fountain of Vespasian, and a monumental gate, a triumphal arch, the temple of Dionysus, bazilka, port bath, the temple of Apollo, Temple of Athena, South bazilka, large Baths, the state Agora, the baptistery, and episcopal palace of bazilka, Attius Philippus Version. Selimiye village was founded by Cretan immigrants in the 1890s on the sea side of the ruins of the ancient city of Side. Today, settlement continues in the city. Some spaces have ancient walls or floors.
